The new treatment rooms were official opened by Gerda Wilson  on the 19th May 2002. This gives a more comfortable and adaptable environment to work in.  With rooms on the ground floor making it easier for disabled people.  A  two-way mirror  makes it  more  adaptable  for the purposes  of teaching and training.  It will also increase the usage of the work  carried out  at the Apple House.

If you pay tax, Gift Aid is a scheme by which you can give a sum of money to a charity (subscriptions) and the charity can reclaim from the Inland Revenue basic rate tax on your gift. For example if you give £10 using gift aid in the tax year 2000/01, that gift is worth £12.82 to the charity. Any member who wish to join the scheme please email your name and address and a form or card will be sent to you. Gift Aid Form Request For further information concerning "Gift Aid" you can download a  PDF file from the Inland Revenue by clicking on the Inland Revenue image.

If you wish you can download the Stammer Trust Form by clicking on the apple,  fill it in and sign. Then send it to any committee member. It is as quick and easy as that.

The Apple House is running an intensive group fluency program. The course is free under the NHS, and members and non-members of the Stammer Trust are very welcome to apply for a place.

The course combines both speech modification and fluency modification approaches, focusing on reducing the amount of stammering, and regaining control over both the moments of stammered speech, and, more generally, the process of speaking.  We will also spend time confronting issues such as avoidance, and negative attitudes and feelings toward speaking. The degree to which various techniques are used varies from person to person, so although there is a group format, goals of the course are somewhat individualised to the needs of each person. However, one common goal of the course is to ensure that, during the 7 days, all attendees have extended opportunities to carry-over  progress into more challenging every day speaking situations away from the Apple House.

If you feel you might be interested in attending, or at least would like to know more about the course, please either email me
llswadav@reading.ac.uk or write or phone me at the Apple House (details below).

There will be a 1 day group follow-up session, available to anyone who has had therapy in the recent or distant past and would like a top-up session. It will be held on Saturday, 26th April 10-4. at the Apple House. This will be an opportunity to review any issues with fluency and to look at ways of controlling both aspects of speech and feelings towards speaking. If people plan on coming, or would like more details, please contact David  by phone (01865 246845) or email (d.ward@reading.ac.uk).

The next seven-day intensive group will run in 3 months (June 23rd-29th). More details available from David.

Members willing to serve on the Stammer Trust Committee  are always welcome.  Any member of the Trust who wishes to join the committee please fill in the Request Form.
